Jackdaws rule the roost

Jackdaws rule the roost
The birdfeeder seems to be depleted fairly quickly these days. There are a few Chaffinches and Greenfinches around, but I think the main culprits are probably the Jackdaws (pictured) and a couple of Magpies. The Jackdaws are quite bold but the Magpies flee as soon as they spot me...

I have a similar problem in St Ives. The Jackdaws eat most of it as soon as I put it out. The Collared doves get some and the House sparrows get what's left. The Goldfinches are ok because nothing else eats Niger seed.

  2. Lovely capture of the Jackdaws. Fortunately here they tend to stay on the lawn on their occasional visits.

  3. Thanks for your comments! I like watching the Jackdaws - they're quite entertaining and enterprising. But we don't normally have any Collared Doves or House Sparrows. I saw a male Pheasant jump down from the feeder yesterday, looking guilty...
